History of TY
First Use
We suspect TY was first used when people began chatting with each other online, but we don’t know exactly when or where. It was first defined on Urban Dictionary in 2005.
Rise in Popularity
From 2004 until around 2016, there was a slow increase in searches for TY according to Google Trends. Since, searches have plateaued and slightly declined.
What was used before TY?
Nothing; people just thanked each other as they would IRL.
