We don’t know when the initialism was first use, but we see Google searches really started around the time the Bangtan Boys was formed. BST was first defined on Urban Dictionary in 2016.
Rise in Popularity
As the Bangtan Boys grew in popularity, so too did searches for BTS, peaking in 2019 according to Google Trends.
What was used before BTS?
Nothing. The Bangtan Boys did not yet exist, and people simply said “be there soon” or “behind the scenes”.
